This dangerous proposal is a giant gift to polluters and a blow to the health and well-being of our children and communities across
the country. It is designed to do one thing: cripple the agency charged with protecting the air we breathe and the water we drink.

Chicago, IL (April 10, 2018) – Save the U.S. EPA, a national campaign being conducted by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) National Council of EPA Locals #238, has joined the #BootPruitt coalition of 15 organizations calling for U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to resign or be fired, it was announced this week.

“Ever since Scott Pruitt was confirmed as the head of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in February 2017, he has done everything he can to undermine the vitally important and often life-saving work of our members – engineers, chemists, toxicologists, and lawyers and other EPA employees – who are dedicated to fulfilling the EPA’s mission: to protect public health and the environment,” said AFGE National Council of EPA Locals #238 President, John J. O’Grady.

“Not only is morale at the lowest it’s ever been, but by reducing the importance of science at the EPA, denying the basic tenets of climate change and advocating for drastic cuts to the EPA’s annual budget, Mr. Pruitt is putting everyone at risk, including our children and grandchildren,” O’Grady added. “Some of the damage he has done will take years, if not decades, to undo. Enough is enough; it’s time to #BootPruitt.”

Over the past 13 months, Pruitt has come under fire for his close ties to the coal and fossil fuel industries, unprecedented abuse of taxpayer dollars, and efforts to undermine science and public health.

He also has instructed the agency to scrub references to climate change and other EPA programs from EPA web pages; spent over $160,000 on first class airline tickets, military flights, and private jets; allocated $43,000 in taxpayer dollars to install a soundproof phone booth in his personal office; and spent over $3 million on an unprecedented 24-hour personal detail. His questionable conduct has led to multiple investigations by the EPA Office of Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office.

“Meanwhile, Pruitt is supporting a budget that drastically cuts EPA funding and has brought fewer cases against polluters than previous administrations: about one-third fewer than the number under President Obama’s first EPA director, and about one-quarter fewer than under President George W. Bush during the same time,” O’Grady explained.

“Working together with the Sierra Club, Earthjustice, Defend Our Future, the Hip Hop Caucus, Green Latinos, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the other members of, we will do whatever it takes to see that Pruitt is held accountable for his actions and is forced to either resign or be fired,” O’Grady said. “There’s just too much at stake.”
